The Wisdom Tooth Scam and Why You Need Your Wisdom Teeth

The truth is, I’m writing this article about the importance of wisdom teeth when all of mine were extracted. Years ago. I’m sure most of you are too. That’s all I knew back then. We believe our dentists are doing their best and not even questioning their methods. I should have asked questions and documented myself. But now I can share my research and what I’ve discovered with you so you can make your own decisions and not just by listening to your dentist just because they told you to. Many of us have been told that wisdom teeth need to be extracted simply because they aren’t really needed. According to dentists, they are simply unnecessary teeth that only clog up our mouths.

What are wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth, also called third molars, are the teeth at the back of the mouth. They typically grow in the late teens or early twenties. According to a report published in the American Journal of Public Health, more than 67% of preventative wisdom tooth extractions are unnecessary. Of the 10 million wisdom teeth extracted in America each year, only 20 were found. It’s important to understand that the myth that wisdom teeth cause all sorts of diseases is simply unfounded. Let’s be realistic: It’s a very lucrative business (approximately $1 billion per year) for the dental industry.
