Today, your blood pressure is either “high” (between 120 and 129 mm Hg systolic, with a diastolic below 80) , or you are entering stage 1 hypertension (130-139/80-89 mm Hg) , or stage 2 hypertension (above 140/90 mm Hg) . A blood pressure above 180/120 mm Hg is now called a hypertensive crisis .
The intention behind this reclassification is clear: to encourage earlier treatment . But is this generalization appropriate for every profile ?
