4 cups crumbled cornbread (day-old is best)
2 cups white bread, torn into pieces
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
3–4 cups chicken broth
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dried sage
1/2 teaspoon thyme (optional)
