Bedbugs at home? Discover the trick to get rid of them.

In the hollow of the mattress, deep in the couch, or between the fibers of the carpet or rugs, these tiny intruders sneak in silently. Bed bugs, despite their size, can quickly turn our nights into a real ordeal. But what if we told you that a simple empty plastic bottle could change everything?

An empty bottle against bedbugs: the surprising trick

It’s often thought that getting rid of bedbugs requires expensive products or complex treatments. But in reality, a  very easy-to-make homemade solution might just surprise you. The magic ingredient? A simple  1.5-liter bottle , transformed into a highly effective trap.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Fill an empty bottle with warm water.
  2. Add 150g of sugar and 30g of dry baker’s yeast.
  3. Take a large flat plate and sprinkle it generously with talcum powder.
  4. Place the bottle in the center of the plate.

This mixture will produce carbon dioxide, a gas that bedbugs easily detect. Attracted by this  fake human breath , they will climb onto the plate… and find themselves trapped in the talcum powder,  unable to get out .

Bonus:  Wrap the bottle in a  perforated plastic food bag  to better diffuse the scent and enhance the trap’s effectiveness. A system that’s as ingenious as it is discreet!

Other natural tips to strengthen anti-bedbug action

Of course, this method doesn’t do everything. For a truly peaceful home, you can combine several simple and complementary tips  .

  1. The essential vacuum cleaner

First of all, carefully vacuum the suspect areas: mattresses, bed slats, baseboards, sofas, etc. Use a flat nozzle and pay particular attention to the gaps.

  1. Baking soda

This natural product, which we all have in our cupboards, acts as an effective dehydrator. Sprinkle it in strategic corners, let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum. Repeat daily for a week.

  1. Silica gel

Those little sachets you sometimes find in shoe boxes or handbags can be useful… as long as you don’t have children or pets.  Crush the beads and spread them into the nooks and crannies for a drying effect.

Vigilance and prevention: your best allies

One of the biggest challenges with bedbugs is that they’re incredibly discreet. Difficult to spot with the naked eye, they often leave subtle signs: small bites upon waking, dark stains on the sheets, or unexplained itching.

Some good reflexes to adopt:

  • Regularly inspect mattress seams as well as cracks in walls or furniture.
  • Wash your sheets at 60°C if in doubt.
  • Protect your bedding with an airtight anti-dust mite cover.
  • And above all, after a trip, avoid putting your suitcase directly on the bed:  bedbugs love to get into luggage!

Goodbye restless nights… and hello peaceful sleep!
