What is psoriasis? A disorder from within
Contrary to popular belief, psoriasis is not a contagious disease. It’s an autoimmune condition: this means that the immune system, which is supposed to protect us, goes into overdrive and mistakenly attacks the skin. The result? An excessive production of skin cells, which accumulate on the surface, forming thick, red, and often scaly patches.
The exact cause remains unclear, but it is known that hereditary factors, stress, certain infections, or even sunburn can trigger or worsen flare-ups. And this condition isn’t limited to the skin: nails or joints can also be affected.
