Lilly’s husband suddenly began to behave extremely disrespectfully
Continuing her letter, Lilly revealed that her husband’s attitude changed dramatically about a year ago. She explained: “George started making derogatory remarks about my body odor. However, nothing justified it: no change in my health or lifestyle. Everything was perfectly normal until the day George started. Every day, at least once, he told me I smelled bad, that I had an unpleasant body odor.”
Recalling the beginning of their relationship, Lilly explained that she had always maintained impeccable hygiene. She showered daily, applied deodorant every morning, and brushed her teeth three times a day. Nothing in his routine had changed since they met. And yet, George persisted in making these hurtful remarks to her.
Lilly confesses: “I became so paranoid about my smell that I showered three times a day and applied really strong deodorant every hour (I even set a reminder on my phone). I wore perfume and brushed my teeth five times a day whenever I ate or drank anything other than water.”
Lilly’s mental health was affected by George’s comments
Receiving hurtful criticism from a loved one about their body odor on a daily basis can have a profound impact on a person. Lilly admitted she was extremely disturbed by George’s behavior.
She writes: “I felt like I was going crazy. I was sure I hadn’t smelled bad during our entire relationship. I didn’t think I smelled bad at that point, either, but apparently my husband thought I did. I’ve always been the type to discreetly check my armpit odor. I consulted a doctor, who confirmed there were no medical problems.”
“I got to the point where I was literally asking my family and friends to feel my armpits and tell me openly if I smelled bad,” says Lilly. “They all told me I didn’t smell bad at all, and one family member even said I smelled too good, like I was in a beauty store.”
