If someone gives you an electric shock, here’s what it means

Why does this happen to you more often than to others?

This is not about “bad karma.” Several factors explain why some people experience these discharges more frequently:

  • Clothing: polyester, wool and other synthetic fibers generate more friction (and therefore more static electricity).
  • Ambient air: in winter or in a dry climate, humidity is low and electrical charge is more difficult to dissipate. As a result, it accumulates.
  • Shoes: rubber soles insulate and prevent the heat from dissipating.  And a carpeted floor further accentuates the effect.
  • Activity: the more you move, especially on synthetic surfaces, the more the load increases.
  • The body: depending on skin hydration or perspiration, some people are more sensitive to static electricity.
