Homemade Crunchy Fried Pickles

Directions

  1. Prepare the Pickles:
    • Drain the pickle slices and pat them dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is crucial for ensuring the batter sticks and becomes crispy.
  2. Prepare the Breading Station:
    • In a small bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
    • In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
    • Place the cornmeal in a third bowl.
  3. Coat the Pickles:
    • Dredge each pickle slice in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
    • Dip the floured pickle slice into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
    • Finally, coat the pickle slice with cornmeal, pressing gently to ensure it sticks well.
  4. Fry the Pickles:
    • Heat a generous amount of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
    • Fry the pickles in small batches, avoiding overcrowding the pan. Cook each batch for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried pickles and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels.
  5. Serve:
    • Enjoy the hot fried pickles with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ranch, spicy mayo, or barbecue sauce.
