What chronic illnesses qualify for a permanent pension?

The list is not exhaustive, but among the most significant pathologies recognized by INPS for the attribution of disability are:

1.  Serious oncological diseases

Advanced or metastatic tumors

Multiple recurrences or continuous invasive treatments

Many types of cancer fall into the disability tables with high percentages, up to 100%.

2.  Degenerative neurological diseases

  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Advanced Parkinson’s disease
  • ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)
  • Severe epilepsy with frequent seizures
  • Alzheimer’s or disabling senile dementia

3.  Serious cardiovascular diseases

  • Chronic heart failure
  • Repeated heart attacks with permanent damage
  • Complex congenital heart disease

4.  Chronic respiratory diseases

  • Advanced COPD
  • Severe pulmonary emphysema
  • Pulmonary fibrosis

5.  Disabling psychiatric illnesses

  • Chronic psychoses (schizophrenia, severe bipolar disorder)
  • Treatment-resistant major depression
  • Severe cognitive impairment

6.  Diabetes mellitus with complications

  • Retinopathy, nephropathy, disabling neuropathy
  • Amputations, vision loss, or dialysis

7.  Systemic autoimmune diseases

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus
  • Deforming rheumatoid arthritis
  • Severe ankylosing spondylitis

8.  Chronic renal failure on dialysis

Those undergoing continuous dialysis can obtain recognition of 100% civil disability and in some cases, an attendance allowance.
